What we deliver (now)
Rapid screening of drain lids and outfalls for wastewater odours
Evidence capture (photos + notes) and location logging
Clear next steps with partners and qualified plumbers (with permission)
The Problem. The Solution. The Impact.
Watch how misconnections pollute rivers — and how detection dogs help find them faster.
The problem:
Sometimes a home gets an extension, a kitchen refit, or a new utility room — and a waste pipe is accidentally connected to a rainwater drain instead of the foul sewer. That means wastewater from washing machines, sinks, showers or dishwashers can flow straight into brooks and rivers. It can go unnoticed for years. Misconnections are usually accidental — but the impact on rivers can be significant.

Why it matters:
A single misconnected washing machine can send thousands of litres of greywater into waterways each year. That's wastewater going to the wrong place — into the river, not the sewer. Multiply that across a neighbourhood and the impact on river health, wildlife and water quality adds up fast.

Where We Are
Eco Dog Solutions CIC is ready to begin field surveys. The dogs are trained, the team is in place, and our operating process is set.
What we're doing now
We're working with water companies and partners to access the drainage mapping needed to prioritise the right streets and outfalls in the River Wye catchment.
Why mapping matters
Most properties have two drainage systems running nearby—often just metres apart:
- •Stormwater drains — carry rainwater directly to rivers
- •Foul sewer lines — carry wastewater to treatment plants
Without accurate mapping, it's harder to confirm which drain lids relate to which system. With it, we can run systematic surveys—screening drains, identifying likely misconnections, and coordinating next steps.
How this is funded
Core delivery is being progressed through founder funding and partner/grant support. Public donations are optional and help us move faster—bridging gaps, expanding survey coverage, and helping fund equipment, dog welfare, evidence capture, and follow-up reporting.
For Water Companies & Catchment Partners
Eco Dog Solutions provides rapid screening and evidence capture to help prioritise follow-up investigations and remedial works. We can support pilot deployments that reduce "check everything" investigations and focus resources where indicators justify it.
Pilot outputs can include:
- •Suspect asset list (by location)
- •Evidence pack (photos + notes)
- •Mapped points for partner follow-up and confirmation
Case studies (publishing soon)
We will publish real pilot case studies as surveys complete — what we found, what was confirmed, and what was fixed — with anonymised evidence where needed.
